people on the internet LOVE to talk about leftists and right wingers being on the same level of outrageous and this is just total BS for many reasons. i got inspired by this video to give my 2 cents on this topic because it makes me angry. the link goes in-depth on it
the idea of a modern-day leftist comes from decades of documented oppression and class inequality, where the rich have "earned their spots" in society while the poor are left to rot. the rich conservative is left "punching down" on immigrants and homeless people instead of addressing the issue at hand. we've seen this with hashtag Stop the Boats in the UK where politicians bought up the migrants, but we are not willing to talk about the underlying problem
if the US and UK stopped continuing their archaic methods of colonisation, shipping off weapons to Saudi Arabia and Israel who are carrying out genocides (against Yemen and the Levant region respectively) we would not have people fleeing their unsafe homes to find refuge in these countries we claim to be so beautiful, not to mention places like India are still recovering from British colonisation as well. all of this happens and we still have the gall to call countries "underdeveloped", countries who were victims of our own government's bloodthirsty acts
if our governments cared about the immigrants so much, they would stop this, but they don't care! they love distracting everyone from the issue at hand: themselves, our prime ministers and presidents hate having fingers pointed at them so they need to make up problems, claiming that the immigrants are taking our jobs. seeing Great Replacement Theory parroted over and over again in sanitised ways is fucking infuriating, i thought the Brits fought the Nazis in WW2 but i guess we aren't so different now are we
i bring up Britain the most in this situation because it's where i live and i feel like i have no authority speaking on America beyond what i'm familiar with, but Britain and America are pretty much the same country in a different outfit. Brits played a huge part colonising the Native Americans' land after all
so we see all of this and we're expected to sit idly by? do you think one CEO getting assassinated is the same level as American citizens dying because they can't afford healthcare? or villages getting wiped out in Palestine, or bombs sent off to the UAE to help them fuel the violent Sudanese war?
